A simpler way of calculating the required amount of protein is to assign a gram of protein for every pound of body weight.

Digestion of protein consumes a lot of energy so your body adjusts by increasing its metabolic rate. This is another beneficial effect of high protein diets. As you gradually return to your everyday diet, you will find out that you are able to burn fats faster because of higher metabolism.
It has been said that high protein diets can lead to kidney diseases but recent studies show that as long as your kidneys are healthy, developing chronic conditions are rare. The connection of high protein diets with kidney disease is more common among people with pre-existing kidney conditions.
